Metropolitan of Bessarabia on why we March for Life: We care about mothers in crisis, children, and the future of the nation

Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia is calling on clergy and faithful to take part in the 2026 March for Life as a public testimony of faith in the sanctity of life and in the blessed purpose of the family, Basilica.ro reports.

“Let our presence at this March become a testimony that we care about the mother in crisis, the child waiting to see the light of day, and the future of this nation, which cannot endure without sons and daughters raised in faith and in love for what is holy,” the Metropolitan conveys.

The 2026 March for Life in Chișinău will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, starting at 12:00 p.m. at the Gheorghe Paladi Municipal Clinical Hospital, across from Shopping MallDova.

“The gift of human life is the first blessing that God entrusts to man, and the birth of every child reveals God’s co-working with man in the world,” His Eminence explains.

“There, in the mother’s womb, in a mystery into which the human eye cannot penetrate, God forms a unique and unrepeatable person, called to communion with Him and to the fulfillment of a blessed purpose.”

The Church cannot remain indifferent

The hierarch also notes that today the Christian family faces challenges that sometimes cause the gift of childbirth to be viewed with distrust or fear.

“In the face of these realities, the Orthodox Church cannot remain indifferent, for she has received from the Lord the calling to defend life, to support mothers, and to encourage the birth and raising of children as a holy work pleasing to God,” Metropolitan Petru emphasizes.

His Eminence recalls that the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church is placing special emphasis this year on the Christian family and on “the sacrificial image of the Christian woman of our people, who, like the saints of old, preserved the faith and raised entire generations in the fear of God and in love for the Church and the nation.”

A month dedicated to women and motherhood

“The month of March, dedicated in a special way to mother and child, reminds us of the dignity of motherhood and of its honored place in the life and ministry of the Church,” Metropolitan Petru says.

The hierarch urges all clergy to stand close to the faithful, encourage young families, support mothers in difficulty, and “show, through presence and prayer, that the Church stands with those who choose life, including by participating in such events.”

Metropolitan Petru concludes his message with a prayer for pregnant women, mothers, and families.

The 2026 March for Life in Chișinău will take place on Saturday, March 28, starting at 12:00 p.m. at the Gheorghe Paladi Municipal Clinical Hospital (20 Melestiu Street), following the route: IMSP – Viaduct – Ciuflea Street – Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard – Triumphal Arch.

At the end of the march, around 12:40 p.m., a free-access concert will be held. The event is organized by the Moldova for Life Association.
