The March for Life around the world / For Life magazine no 10, spring 2021

Of the hundreds of local Marches for Life, the most important one in the US is the March for Life in Washington, DC.

The 2021 March for Life in Washington, DC was held in a hybrid format – with both in-person and online participation – on January 21, 2021. It was the 48th edition of the Washington March for Life! This year’s theme was “Together Strong: Life Unites”.

“Mother Theresa reminded us: ‘You can do what I cannot do, I can do what you cannot do and together we can do great things’. Like our (march) theme tells us, each of us has something critical and irreplaceable to contribute to the fight for life. Everyone is desperately needed. So, please join me, to be together strong, because life unites!”

“Every human life is a gift to the world.  Whether born or unborn, young or old, healthy or sick, every person is made in the holy image of God.  The Almighty Creator gives unique talents, beautiful dreams, and a great purpose to every person.  (…) I call on the American people to continue to care for women in unexpected pregnancies and to support adoption and foster care in a more meaningful way, so every child can have a loving home.  And finally, I ask every citizen of this great Nation to listen to the sound of silence caused by a generation lost to us, and then to raise their voices for all affected by abortion, both seen and unseen.”

“Before I was born, my mother suffered a devastating stroke, just before giving birth to my sister. Doctors told her that future pregnancies would be extremely high-risk. Years later, when she was pregnant with me, against the urging of her doctors and even family, she did something incredible: she chose life! Her bravery in face of this difficult decision led to my passion for standing up for the rights of the innocent and the unborn. (…) Your integrity in choosing to stand up for this population is often unpopular with your peers, your friends and even your neighbors sometimes. But never lose faith! Advocates like you, who sit by when the rights of millions are infringed, are critical to ensuring that we protect lives for years to come.”

“The most important work to build a culture of life does not depend on this gathering. On the contrary: it begins in our homes, overflows to our places of worship and employment and influences our local communities, which then impacts our nations.”

“Someday, future generations of Americans will look back and wonder how and why a society that prided itself on human rights and empathy could have effectuated and enabled the loss of so many defenseless babies.”

“Our politics will not change until people change… Our political breakthroughs, our political successes, will only be short-termed unless they are rooted in deep cultural breakthroughs.”
