Patriarch Daniel to Pope Francis: „Our predecessors call upon us to defend the traditional Christian family made up of a man, a woman and children, in a Europe marked by a clear demographic decline”

About Pope Francis’ ongoing visit to Romania – a commentary by Stiripentruviata.ro, Romania’s daily updated pro-life news portal:
His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, welcomed Pope Francis on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Patriarchal Palace in Bucharest, Romania. In his welcome address, the Patriarch approached the topics that come naturally in the context of the relationship between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church: the visit of Pope John Paul II to Romania in 1999, philanthropy, and social peace. Patriarch Daniel also mentioned crucial contemporary issues that the Pope has not touched yet during his ongoing visit to Romania.
More exactly, Patriarch Daniel referred to the assault of secularism on Christian faith, Christian values and religious freedom. He said that only defending and promoting these realities we can teach young people to believe in God’s work upon this world and in the eternity of the human person.
Patriarch Daniel emphasized that we equally need to defend and promote the institution of marriage between one man and one woman, and the act of childbearing.
It will be worth watching Pope Francis’ visit to Romania to see whether he continues to speak good wishes or finally choses to punctuate the problems he well knows that Romania is facing: the marriage referendum from last year, sabotaged by the whole political class, and the fact that the number of elective abortions remains huge both in Romania and among the Romanian residents from abroad.
