Participants in the 2026 Bucharest March for Life listened live to the heartbeat of an unborn child

Participants in the 2026 Bucharest March for Life listened live to the heartbeat of an unborn child, according to Basilica.ro.
The event was organized by Students for Life Bucharest and Romania for Life on Saturday, March 28, and was attended by over 1,000 participants who braced the rain. The event’s theme was “Solidarity for Both”—meaning both the mother and her unborn child.
“When we are in solidarity with the woman, she finds the strength to be in solidarity with the child,” explained Teodora Diana Paul, president of Students for Life Bucharest, on the stage.
„We do not say: It’s your choice, deal with it. We say: We are here. And we truly are. Because freedom without solidarity leaves a person alone. Only freedom lived in solidarity becomes love.”
„That is why the real question is not only: What do you choose? But: Who is beside you when you choose? And the answer… can be each one of us. Let us be so,” added the young woman.
The Story of the Heart
At the terminus point, the participants were met by the hosts of the event, actress Ioana Picoș and TV anchor Iulian Bobîrnea, who presented the Live for Life concert.

Ioana Picoș performed Céline Dion’s song “Miracle.” She dedicated it to her husband and children—one of whom is still unborn.
A moving moment was “The Story of the Heart,” in which several March for Life volunteers used panels on stage to explain that the heart begins to form very soon after conception and that it accompanies us throughout our entire lives. The moment culminated with the amplification of the heartbeat of Ioana Picoș’s unborn child—as heard on a portable ultrasound device.
Adoption – a Birth from the Heart
The speeches were just as impressive. Larisa Negru spoke about the opportunity she and her siblings had to be adopted by a loving family, where they learned about faith and love.
“Through their sacrifice and unconditional love, our parents lifted me and my brothers up. They gave us a home—not only a physical place, but a space of the heart, where we learned that true love goes beyond every trial,” she said.
“If I have learned anything from my life, it is that each of us can become someone’s hope. We do not have to do extraordinary things. It is enough to be present, to be a helping hand, to be the voice that says: You are not alone.”
The decision to keep the baby depends on the man’s support
Cristian Budău gave a moving account of his responsibility for an abortion performed by his life partner.
“A woman’s decision to keep her child depends enormously on the man beside her,” he warned. “She did not choose alone. I chose for her—through silence, through a few cold words spoken by a man who was simply afraid.”
„They say we are half of the responsibility. Apparently,” he added. “Now, twenty-five years later, I know something that I completely ignored back then: if a woman feels that the man beside her does not run away from responsibility—in more than 90 percent of cases—she chooses to keep the child. Ninety percent.”
“That means that we, men, are not half of the story. Most of the time, the decision is in our hands.”
Mothers in crisis situations need a community
Mara Epuraș, social worker at the “St. Helena Life House” Maternal Center in Valea Lupului, the county of Iași, spoke about support for abused women and women in crises.
“From our experience working with mothers in crisis, we have learned a simple truth: a mother does not need only a roof over her head,” she said.
“She needs people. She needs specialists, a community, real support, and a safe place where she can begin to rebuild her life. Through support, counseling, concrete assistance, and guidance, their perspective begins to change.”
Truth gives life
Among the speakers was a guest from abroad: Maria Czernin from Pro-Life Europe, a pro-life youth organization with branches in eight European countries.
She urged the young people not to be afraid to speak out about their pro-life beliefs, as these can be life-saving. She recounted a conversation about abortion that she had, despite her initial hesitation, with another young woman, who later told her that it had been decisive in convincing her to keep the child she was carrying.
“This is the power of truth. Truth gives life. Truth enables life,” Maria Czernin said. “So let us raise the standard of our words. Let us not be afraid to speak what is good, what is true, what is beautiful.”
For Life magazine

Ioana Picoș and Iulian Bobîrnea presented on stage this year’s edition of the magazine *PENTRU VIAȚĂ* (For Life), published by the organizers, which features testimonials, interviews, and statistics related to pro-life issues.
The magazine is published by the associations *Studenți pentru Viață București* (Students for Life Bucharest) and *România pentru Viață* (Romania for Life), the organizers of the March for Life in Bucharest.
The event concluded with a tribute to the 170 volunteers, who took the stage, and with the announcement of the date for the 2027 March for Life: it will take place on March 27.
The 2026 March for Life in Bucharest was broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube by Trinitas TV, the television station of the Romanian Patriarchate:
March for Life 2026 marked the 16th national edition in Romania and was organized in more than 100 localities. During the Month for Life 2026 (March 1–31), more than 2,000 pro-life events were held in Romania and several dozen more in the Republic of Moldova.
